Auckland Zoo

Our view on zoos changed recently after listening to a talk by Dr Jane Goodall - in short a good zoo is an important contributor to the survival of many species. Not just keeping some alive in captivity, but enabling research to better help those in the wild. The zoo itself was well laid out with enclosures which seem to have been well thought out; lot's of trees and picnic areas made it a pleasant space to spend the afternoon...

Labour Weekend: Whangarei Heads

Just a quick post to share some photos from our trip to Whangarei Heads last weekend. It was a bank holiday weekend, so we made our first trip away since our return to the UK in May.
Whangarei Heads is a small peninsula, approx 2.5 hours north of Auckland. A beautiful area with some stunning walks, we were blessed with a break from the recent rain and did two a day, including a return to Mount Mania - which we first visited in July 2012. Just like the first time, the climb was well worth it - all 1117 steps of it!
